Call to Action: Obama’s “U.N. Tax” Proposal, S.2433, Up for Senate Vote

Those who favor Barack Obama because he is for “change” should see an example of what kind of change he is in favor of before voting for him. For example, Senate Bill 2433, which was just sped on the fast-track through committee and is now up for a full Senate vote:

The legislation would commit the U.S. to spending 0.7 percent of gross national product on foreign aid, which amounts to a phenomenal 13-year total of $845 billion over and above what the U.S. already spends.

[...]

The bill defines the term “Millennium Development Goals” as the goals set out in the United Nations Millennium Declaration, General Assembly Resolution 55/2 (2000).

[...]

In addition to seeking to eradicate poverty, that declaration commits nations to banning “small arms and light weapons” and ratifying a series of treaties, including the International Criminal Court Treaty, the Kyoto Protocol (global warming treaty), the Convention on Biological Diversity, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, and the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

So, while giving speeches saying “It’s time to stop spending billions of dollars a week trying to put Iraq back together and start spending the money on putting America back together instead,” he actually proposes legislation that would send billions of dollars overseas?

Barack also wants to spend $210 Billion on federal “green collar” jobs, and fund it by taxing carbon emissions and cutting corporate tax breaks. At this rate, the United States will be poor and looking for help from other countries before long. Oh wait, we already are. But getting further into debt is okay?

The real solution to global poverty — like any other form of poverty — is to give a hand up, not a hand out. Barack should take a lesson from Nobel Peace Prize Winner Muhammad Yunus, for his successful work on microloans. But that wouldn’t allow stripping us of our guns, our sovereignty, and our parental rights the way S.2433 would do.

What you can do: Use The Mailbox to contact your Senators today, and tell them that when Senate Bill 2433 comes up for a vote, that — to preserve our economy and our sovereignty — to vote no.

I think you’re totally oblivious that many Americans are indeed charitable, and might just applaud Obama’s efforts. I think the foregoing possibly escaped your premise for this reasoning. Americans don’t want to see other places in poverty.

Now, there is a difference between spending money for a senseless cause - a war where lives are lost, and spending money for a worthwhile cost, where lives are saved.

I think you just don’t get it.

  2. patriot Says:

Name one person that feels charitable on April 15th.

Americans (and people in general) are more likely to give when they’re taxed less. And direct giving to charitable organizations (or — gasp! — people themselves) has a lower overhead in “administrative fees” that you’ll see with ANY government operation, let alone the UN. If the corrupt oil-for-food program taught us anything, it’s that the UN is a cesspool of corruption.

Now if you want to give money to the UN, then you go ahead and write them a check. But no one should be FORCED to give.

And I assume you are okay with disarming US citizens of their guns, putting US citizens on trial in front of an international court, and throwing our parental rights away? Does our sovereignty mean nothing to you?

  3. John Says:

Isn’t helping around the world (i.e. ridding Iraq’s dictator) the selling point that hushed the criticism for Iraq?

Isn’t there pressure to do more around the world to help AIDS countries?

Doesn’t the US spend incredible amount on middle east peace initiatives and economic incentive?

Like I said, you must come to grips with the fact that you have a different view than others in the country in which you share.

My challenge to you is twofold. I not only challenge you to realize that there are competing views which contrast to yours in this country, but also figure out what those views are.

Based on what you wrote above, I garanteee you will find your views alone don’t sum up America.

Obama is courting a specific constituent, and not you

American in not a homogeneous or monolithic place.

  4. patriot Says:

I understand that there are differing views, and I realize what they all are. You, however, seem to have missed the entire point of this website, as well as this post.

It all boils down to this: S.2433 is a threat to liberty. Period. That is why the post was made to begin with, and if you can’t understand that, then you have no idea the perilous times we are living in, nor can you comprehend the fact that politicians regardless of party are stealing our liberties to advance their own political agendas.

Abraham Lincoln once said that the government shouldn’t tear one man’s house down to build another man a smaller house. Think about that for a minute.
